Renowned designer, Martyn Lawrence Bullard was influenced by Morocco, California and the Mediterranean cost while curating the space. He incorporated the façade from the original hotel but added modern twists to make Hotel Californian the city center on the coast. Isla was created as an extension of the hotel incorporating complimentary details to enhance the hotel without being an exact replica - floor to ceiling drapery softens the store to give it a residential feel and a rug is placed over the tile floor to delineate the space. Isla forms an intimate shopping experience drawing from the surrounding area of Santa Barbara and Montecito.
